August 6th, 2011

If you are looking for a great place to take your partner on a romantic yet fun vacation, come to the city of Houston. You’ll see quickly that Texans are notorious for their southern hospitality and charm. Houston, Texas has great weather, exquisite cuisine, a hip-hop-happening night life, and plenty of activities. During your stay in Houston, you have to spend some time at the 1,500-acre Memorial Park, where you can golf, swim, play tennis, walk, bike, or have a picnic lunch. And then there is Discovery Green Park in Downtown Houston, where there is a farmer’s market, fine dining, dog runs, Wi-Fi and ice skating in the colder months. These are great places to relax and spend some quiet time in the city.

Both of you can jump into the same kayak with Buffalo Bayou Kayak Tours and take a four-hour excursion through the heart of Houston. As you paddle along, you’ll spot loggerhead turtles, blue herons, and possibly even an alligator. You might even find it interesting to take a tour of the oldest craft brewery in Texas, Saint Arnold Brewery. They provide free samples. If you are looking for something a little more educational then check out the Health Museum. Here you can see giant sculptures of human teeth, ribs, and organs. Or you can take a look at the wild animals over at the city of Houston’s zoo. This 55-acre space is home to 4,500 animals.

Although not every couple enjoys shopping, it is worth a trip to Traders Village where every weekend there are about 800 merchants and vendors looking to bargain with you. The village is open all year-round and vendors sell everything from antiques to sports memorabilia and jewelry to records. Houston also has a mall, Memorial City Mall, and a quaint 100-year-old village with cobblestone streets and more than 150 shops and vendors. There are countless more boutiques and stores all over the city.

Every trip to the city of Houston wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Mucky Duck. This is one of the top 20 acoustic venues in the United States and many celebrities have performed here, including Guy Clark, Lyle Lovett, and Ezra Charles. At this popular Irish pub, they play country, blues, and Celtic music. Howl At The Moon is a rock n’ roll dueling piano bar with music four nights a week. The Houston Space Center will take you on a journey through time and space as the equipment and technology that was developed since the days of Robert Goddard, the father of modern rocketry, are preserved for posterity and your enjoyment
